My two passions have always been film and travel. In 2004, I decided to combine these two fields by going to New Zealand for three years, where I wrote my PhD dissertation on film tourism at the Department of Tourism at the University of Otago.
My book entitled “The Experiences of Film Locations Tourists” (Channel View Publications: London) contains the results of my research.
During my time in New Zealand, I also worked as a tour guide for Lord of the Rings film tours where I had the privilege to show film fans from all over the world the spectacular film locations of Middle Earth.
I have been using my expertise in this field ever since in order to advise tourism stakeholders, film commissions and production companies about the spin-off effects of fictional film productions.
In 2013, I started my own film production company – Punakaiki Productions – together with New Zealand writer and filmmaker Pennie Hunt. The company’s focus is to produce quality stories with strong female characters.
